As a spiritual energy healing system, one learns to utilize this connection to transfer this vital life force energy (known in Eastern traditions as chi, prana, and ki) to those who are in need of it. The main emphasis of the practice is utilizing our sacred connection to the spiritual and energetic realms of the Universe (both internal and external) to help correct the energetic imbalances, blockages and exceses within oneself and eventually in others.

As a spiritual practice, Reiki serves as a tool in helping one bridge the connection to the Divine Higher Self. Through this Sacred connection, the realization and awakening to Cosmic Oneness is achieved. To walk the sacred path of a healer is to walk the conscious steps toward healing the illusion of separation, which is the illusion of the human condition and ego.

Usui's Reiki practice was a discipline that involved three levels of initiation: Shoden (Reiki 1), Okuden (Reiki 2), and Shinpinden (Reiki 3). Within each initiation there is a different emphasis on your level of connection to the Universal Life Force energy. Within each level you are given attunements, taught meditations, hand positions, the different techniques, as well as the symbols, and mantras which serve to deepen your connection to both the the cosmic energy and your clients.

Shoden (Reiki 1): In the level one class, four attunements are given. The focus is one of personal development and spirituality. In this class you will receive all initiations for the Shoden (Japanese Reiki level One) Usui Reiki Ryoho, the spiritual and mental connection, self-treatments and the treatment of others. Meditations are designed to help focus and develop your spiritual path and connect with the Reiki energy.

Okuden (Reiki 2): In this class you will receive initiations for the second degree. In this level a deeper connection to Oneness is created. The first three symbols, first three mantras and their uses and the Oneness Technique for what is referred to in western Reiki as absentee or distance healing is also taught.

Shinpinden (Reiki 3): The name Shinpinden means Mystery Teachings. Shinpinden is the third and final level of traditional Japanese Reiki. As in Shoden (level one) and Okuden (level two) Japanese Reiki, the focus in Shinpinden is one of personal and spiritual development. This four day class teaches the final elements of this system of Reiki, creating a daily practice using meditations and the Reiki precepts. Receiving the Shinpinden level attunement and learning how to practice all levels of attunements and reju is also taught. This will raise your level of consciousness and bring in higher vibrations of energy. You will learn Shinpinden traditional techniques and meditations and the use of these meditations and techniques on a daily basis.
